      Bethesda, MD 20814
Their toll-free phone number and referral number is: 1-800-3-AUTISM. Their web address is: www.autism-society.org The ASA has over 225 chapters in 46 states. The national ASA office can direct you to your local chapter. Your local ASA chapter can be an excellent source of information regarding local professionals, school districts, and other parents of children with autism. Other parents of children with autism spectrum disorders can be an invaluable wealth of information and support.

  Your State's University-Affiliated Resource Center
Every state in the USA has a university-affiliated resource center for developmental disabilities. Every state is different, but some states have a separate resource center for autism. Your state’s resource center is probably located at the main campus of your state’s university. (The State of Indiana has an exceptionally helpful Resource Center for Autism at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community based at Indian University in Bloomington.) Your state's ISDD is probably located at the main campus of your state's university. Your school's special education department or cooperative should be able to direct you to them. Your l ocal ASA chapter (or the national office) Your school's special education department or cooperative should be able to direct you to them. Your local ASA chapter (or national office) should also be able to direct you there.

  Local Agencies and Parents
Some areas have local agencies that help supply services for people with developmental disabilities. Your local United Way office may be able to help you locate such an agency. Even if you are not in need of services, those local agencies might be able to connect you with other parents/people in you area who have been where you are now. Your school’s special education department or cooperative could help you connect with other families who share your situation, or local professionals who may be helpful. Don't discount other families as excellent sources of information! That is how many support groups, including MAAP Services, started.

  And Remember................

Please don't be discouraged if you seem to spend an inordinate amount of time making phone calls or searching the internet trying to find answers to your questions. It does take a lot of time. But your loved one is worth the effort!
